Suntech supplies 100MW solar modules to Europe’s largest solar power project

In March 2019, as a famous solar photovoltaic manufacturer in the world, Suntech supplied modules for the Nuñez de Balboa photovoltaic power station in Extremadura of Iberdrola, with a total capacity up to 100MW.

The Nuñez de Balboa project is the largest among similar projects under construction across Europe. It will become the first large-scale PV power station invested by Iberdrola in Europe, The project occupies an area of 1,000ha. and requires the installation of almost 1.5million PV modules upon completion.

Suntech has provided its polycrystalline PV modules to Nuñez de Balboa project, Since March 2019, Suntech has continuously shipped a total of 270,000 pieces modules to this project on a regular basis. All supplies are expected to be completed in Q4.

Mr. Ignacio Galán, Chairman of Iberdrola said: “As a pioneering project in the renewable energy field, this project further consolidates the leading roles of Extremadura, Spain and EU in transforming to more sustainable energy systems”.

After being put into operation, the power generation of Nuñez de Balboa project can meet daily electricity demands of 250,000 people in Spain and offset the carbon dioxide emissions of 215,000 tons. Moreover, the project can create at least 1,200 jobs during the construction peak.
